Grip (www.grip.tools) is web-based software that automatically produces visual content for physical goods. Grip supports brands to cope with the fast-accelerating challenge of the exponential grow and need for content. It’s based on photorealistic 3D, capitalising on INDG’s twenty-year-long experience in that field. 3D is good because once your beer or your juicer or your rocket is on Grip, it can be used and re-used for multiple media: images, videos, iOS apps, and such.

As our new R&D Engineer you will work in close connection with the rest of our R&D Team, our Artists and the Grip Software Development Team. You will be responsible to define and develop the core of our compositing pipeline – using and combining off-the-shelf solution but also creating specialized internal solutions using image processing and machine learning methods.

Automation of complex compositions is at your heart, and you aren’t shy developing code to do so. Surely, creating an automated and state-of-the-art compositing and rendering pipeline for breathtaking visual result is the number one goal for all your development work, but you also understand deeply the inner aspects of Image Manipulation, (Deep Pixel) Compositing and other aspects around moving images, in close combination with computer generated content. It is your passion to combine your knowledge in these areas with automation driven by code, inside and outside of compositing and video editing applications. In addition you are able to apply your knowledge to proprietary, in-house image manipulation solutions and contribute to their development.

What will you be doing?

• In close collaboration with our CTO and compositing & re-touch experts and artists, build on our existing compositing pipeline new features and capabilities to codify typical re-touch and image manipulation tasks.
• Guide the team(s) on the ideal usage of compositing and image manipulation with a fully 3D based creation pipeline.
• Close collaboration, sometimes in shared sprints, with our Grip development team to identify shared (technical) approaches.
• Build, test & deploy frequent changes and updates to the pipeline.
• Document and possibly train artists to use the pipeline, pick up enhancements and implement directly.

Would be amazing if you have:

• 5+ years experience in Computer Graphics and Science discipline
• Hands on software engineering and architecture (basic)
• Experience in the visual effects or computer animation industry
• Strong understanding of Machine Learning and related frameworks (pyTorch, TensorFlow, OpenCV, Cuda, …)
• Strong knowledge of Python / TypeScript and related scripting languages within a Windows or Linux environment
• Experience working with revision control systems and defined coding standards
• Knowledge of the VFX Reference Platform
• VFX, visualization, Feature Animation or Episodic production experience
• Experience developing on Windows / Linux
• Experience developing tools and/or plugins within industry software packages such as Nuke, Blender or Houdini
• Hands on experience with Photoshop
• Experience with 3ds Max, Maya, Vray, Cycles or Arnold (Optional) 
• Upper-Intermediate English level
